What do we do in school to promote Growth Mindsets?
To cultivate a growth mindset, we:
- Teach the children what mindset is and why it’s important
- Teach the children about neuroplasticity
- Teach the children to do four key skills: Concentrate; Have a Go; Don’t Give Up; & Love Learning
- Learn about these skills through lessons, with child-friendly videos and activities
- Remind the children about growth mindset constantly, through teacher talk, posters in every classroom, displays, our growth mindset song, assembly awards and special events
- Welcome guest speakers who focus on growth mindset messages – these have included adventurer Nick Carter, athlete/singer Jo Mersh, and mindset expert Robin Launder
- Hold Mindset Month annually, including lessons, activities and challenges
- Hold special one-off events, such as 2018’s Have-a-GoVember, in which everyone in the school learned something new
- Acknowledge good growth mindset behaviours in weekly celebration assemblies
Show the importance we place on mindset by including a Growth Mindset award as part of the Year 6 Leavers’ Prize Giving
