Year 3
2020-2021
In year 3 we have started our talk for writing unit based on the story, ‘How the tortoise got his shell.’ We kick-started the unit with the children making their own tortoise shells which they really enjoyed. They have also been learning the text off by heart with actions. See if they can retell the story to you at home!
2019-2020
Kestrel Class Assembly
Unfortunately, due to the current global situation we had to cancel Kestrel class's assembly to parents. The children still performed the assembly and we recorded it for parents to watch from home and will email it to all Kestrel Class parents. Well done to all the children for being so sensible at this difficult time.
Monster Making
As part of our new English unit on Non chronological reports, the children began the term making monsters! The children worked together in teams to create monsters and it was great to see them using their imagination and showing great creativity and teamwork. The monsters looked great and the children really enjoyed starting the unit in such an engaging way. By making the monsters first it has given the children a lot more ideas when it has come to writing reports about what monsters are like. The year 3 teachers continue to be impressed with the improvement in both the children’s handwriting and vocabulary.
Reading Morning
On Thursday the 5th December, year 3 hosted a reading morning for parents. Parents were invited in to read with their child and learn more about Accelerated reading and how the quizzing is carried out. The children enjoyed demonstrating to parents how they used the IPads to take reading quizzes and it was nice to see parents sharing a book with their child. Parents were also provided with ideas to support their child’s reading at home and it was an opportunity to discuss any reading questions with the class teacher. Thank you to those who attended.

September
To start the year in Year 3, we have been looking at rocks and soils. The children experimented on different types of rocks and used all their investigation skills.
